Meet the Director

Jaime Hamilton joins IUPUI as a Lecturer in Communications Studies. She earned her Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Speech Communication at the University of Central Missouri.

During her Master’s Degree program, Jaime co-lectured for a year at the University of Glamrogan in Pontypridd, Wales.  Jaime’s master’s thesis research identified the time-orientation of Welsh students and noted how time orientation might be tied to perceived communication competence.

Born in Germany, she was raised in southern Missouri. She has traveled to several countries including, but not limited to, the Czech Republic, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Gibraltar, Spain, Austria, France, England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. “Traveling is a cultivating experience that has and will continue to enhance cultural perspective.” Jaime is teaching Public Speaking and Group Communication in the fall semester, in addition to directing the IUPUI Jag Speech Team.

A Former Team Member says...

As a recent graduate, I can attest to the educational benefits of forensics. It afforded me the opportunity to travel the country, engage in academic competition, and work with a diverse group of people on a near-daily basis. My time with the Forensics team has been one of self-discovery, camaraderie, competition and excitement that no other co-curricular activity could have offered.

Since graduating last month, I have been accepted into the Indiana Bob Orr Entrepreneurial Fellowship, whose mission is to retain and inspire Indiana’s brightest minds by serving as an applied training vehicle for the State’s future entrepreneurs and organizational leaders. From a pool of over 6,000 résumé’s, I was selected to be IUPUI’s second ever Orr Fellow. I firmly believe that my acceptance into this program results directly from the skills and communication training I received in the Forensics Program. It has been invaluable to me as a student and will continue to be a personal value-add for years to come.

Speech and Debate offers students at IUPUI the opportunity to build effective public communication skills through competition and advocacy.I can think of no better way for students to enhance their education and marketability while still at university.
